Juneteenth is a federal holiday

Zeeshan – Isaac appreciates the Biden Administration which has declared Juneteenth as a Federal Holiday. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863 but it was not until June 19, 1865 that an executive order was issued to the people of Texas to free all slaves.

Even the Emancipation Proclamation stipulated that the newly “freedmen” were to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages, also prohibiting them from joining the military.

Today is a special day in our nation’s history because today we honor Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Juneteenth has been a significant part of American history and we should continue to honor our ancestors who fought for emancipation.

This fight is not over because we know the struggles continue for freedom and equality for all races, ethnicities whether they are black, brown or other marginalized communities. We should always engage, empower and educate all races, ethnicities and people from different cultures and faiths in America. This will make our nation and country stronger for current and future generations to come.

God Bless you and may God Bless America! 🇺🇸
